AMVR Carrying Case Review: Premium Protection for Quest 3 & 3S?

Don’t be like me and almost break your expensive VR headset in a normal backpack.

If you plan to take your headset with you on the go, you need to protect your hardware with a dedicated hardshell case. Whether it is for travel or just heading to a friend’s house, throwing a $500 device in a soft bag is a recipe for scratched lenses and broken controllers.

For a long time, I relied on the popular BoboVR C2 case to haul my gear. It was functional and did the job. But recently, I switched to the AMVR Hard Carrying Case (currently around $40.69). Honestly, the jump in premium feel has me sold.

But while it offers serious protection, does it actually work with the increasingly bulky battery straps we use today? Here is my full breakdown.

Design & Build Quality

This is the main reason I made the switch. The AMVR case just feels solid.

The exterior features a sleek, protective hard shell. It feels rigid enough to withstand drops or being crushed in a tight trunk. This gives me way more confidence than some of the softer, semi-rigid cases on the market.

But the real highlight is the interior. The inside is lined with a soft-touch fabric lining that feels amazing. Unlike cheaper cases with rough foam or scratchy nylon, this velvety interior gives me total peace of mind. I know my lenses and headset body won’t get scuffed by the case itself while moving around.

Storage & Interior Layout

Inside, the layout is clean and effective. It features:

  • Secure strap system: A dedicated strap holds the headset firmly in place to prevent shifting.
  • A large mesh pocket: This is perfect for storing your charging brick, link cable, or extra AA batteries.
  • Spacious main compartment: There is plenty of room to situate your controllers securely alongside the headset.

The combination of the secure straps and pockets makes me confident that nothing is moving around during transit. Compared to the cavernous, empty interior of the BoboVR C2 where things can sometimes rattle, the AMVR case feels tighter and more organized.

The “Gotcha”: Durability & Fit

However, not everything is perfect. I do have a few concerns after using this case for a while.

First is the exterior durability. While the hard shell offers great impact protection, the smooth finish is surprisingly easy to scratch. If you are tossing this into a trunk with other gear, expect it to pick up some scuffs and aesthetic battle scars pretty quickly.

Second is the interior width. While it fits the Quest 3 with the official Elite Strap perfectly, it can get very tight with wider third-party accessories.

I specifically tested this with the Quest 3S equipped with an Annapro A3 battery head strap. It fits inside, but the rigid arms of the strap push hard against the side walls of the case. This causes a noticeable bulge on the sides. While it zips closed without a fight, that constant side-to-side pressure makes me worry about potential long-term stress on the plastic arms of the head strap.

Pros & Cons

  • Pro: Premium hard shell protection
  • Pro: Soft, velvety interior lining
  • Pro: Holds headset very securely
  • Con: Exterior finish scratches easily
  • Con: Tight width for bulky battery straps
  • Con: More expensive than generic options

The Verdict: Is It Worth It?

The AMVR Hard Carrying Case is a definite step up in quality from the budget options floating around Amazon.

The hard shell feels protective and the soft-touch fabric lining feels amazing. It is a clear upgrade over my old BoboVR C2 in terms of pure build quality and style.

However, you need to keep the fit in mind. I tested this with my daily driver, a Meta Quest 3 equipped with the BoboVR M3 Pro strap, and the fit was actually quite good. It handled that popular halo strap without issue.

The width problems really only appeared when I tested the Quest 3S combined with the Annapro A3, which created a setup simply too bulky for the case to handle comfortably. So, if you have a standard strap or even a moderate battery strap like the M3 Pro, this is an easy recommendation. Just be wary if you are running an exceptionally wide setup.

For $40.69, it is a premium investment for your Quest 3 or 3S. If you want the best protection with a high-end feel, this is the one to get.
