Globular Cluster GalaxyXR Comfort Mod Review: An Essential Comfort Fix?
GalaxyXR has been on the market for almost a full year. One of the most common complaints I’ve read about the headset since its launch has been its rigid strap and lackluster facepads. Unlike devices like the Meta Quest 3 that allow interchangeable comfort options, the GalaxyXR stock strap is rigid, meaning not only can it not be replaced, it cant even be adjusted!
Some users end up not having any issues, but unless your head is perfectly shaped for the headset, you have probably dealt with headset pressure on your forehead or cheeks. That’s where the GalaxyXR Comfort Mod comes in! Globular Cluster is well known for its various VR Comfort Mods, but does the GalaxyXR variant live up to the must-have PSVR2 comfort mod?
Comfort & Material Quality: The Setup
The one unfortunate thing about any Globular Cluster Comfort Mod is that your device will have to undergo a bit of surgery. This process is not hard, but it can be a bit scary for people who don’t typically work on their headsets. With a pry bar, you will have to remove the current back pad option and replace it with the Globular Cluster padding.
Once installed, Globular Cluster does give multiple options to dial in your comfort. With two separate types of materials (a sweat-resistant fabric and a traditional faux-leather), each material option comes with different-sized forehead pads, allowing you to dial in the thickness of padding that works best. For example, the thinnest material felt great to me, but my eyes would become too close to the lenses, causing my eyelashes to rub. I opted for the medium size for my head shape.
Does It Fix the GalaxyXR’s Front-Heavy Pressure?
Thanks to the included top strap, the Globular Cluster Comfort Mod completely changed the weight distribution for me. Now with more padding on the back of my head and a top strap to balance things out, I noticed FAR less pressure on my cheeks, allowing for considerably extended VR sessions.
Additionally, since you can dial in your exact fit a little easier, you can keep your lens sweet spot far more reliably. This isn’t just a GalaxyXR comfort upgrade; I’d say it’s essential if you use this device regularly.
Pros and Cons
The Verdict: An Essential Upgrade?
The Globular Cluster GalaxyXR Comfort Mod is not only the best GalaxyXR headstrap, it’s a must-have. The difference in how the headset feels for long sessions is worth every single penny. I did not quite enjoy using my GalaxyXR when I first got it because of the fit, but this completely changed that for me. If you have a GalaxyXR, you NEED the Globular Cluster Comfort Mod.
